8 Landmark Moments for LGBT Rights During the Obama Administration

In honor of Pride Month, the White House Office of the Press Secretary today released a fact sheet that details over 30 separate accomplishments, initiatives or pieces of legislation piloted by the President that advanced and protected the rights of LGBTQ Americans.

Quoting Obama's words from last year's speech on June 26th, when DOMA was officially struck down, the fact sheet sets the tone by saying that no matter "how and who you love, America is a place where you can write your own destiny."

The list of accomplishments reads almost like a greatest hits album, covering the Obama Administration's anti-bullying efforts, repealing of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, advancement of LGBTQ health benefits, anti-discrimination laws and recognition of LGBT history and landmarks. Oh, and of course there's that little thing from last year, which was the striking down of DOMA and the federally granted right to marry gaily.
