Since the recent presidential election, it appears that Donald Trump's team is mainly focused on his ongoing Twitter crusade and the scramble to find someone of relevance to perform at the inauguration. Elton John has recently corrected claims that he would be performing and Garth Brooks has backed out. Although there is now speculation that Kanye West will take the stage.
One musician that has announced she will perform is 16-year-old Jackie Evancho. The young opera singer was a runner up on America's Got Talent, and has since performed for both Trump and President Obama. She announced her new gig recently on The Today Show.
Evancho also opened up to People about her upcoming performance, calling attention to the social media backlash. In addition to the recent criticism, Evancho has dealt with trolls attacking her trans sister, Juliet Evancho, who filed a lawsuit against her school for not allowing her to use the women's bathroom.
"My family is kind of a big target," Jackie said to People. "I have a transgender sister, so a lot of hate goes towards us. But I also get a lot of love, and so we pay most attention to that."
Jackie did not mention any personal opinions toward the Republican crusade against transgender people.
