"You're the only girl I've got on my list," sing Tegan and Sara in this romantic and boppy jingle perfect for the beginning of Christmas music season. The duo's new single "Make You Mine This Season" is out today as the first track from the all-queer-artist soundtrack to the upcoming lesbian rom-com Happiest Season.
I love Christmas music, and I love this song! It's like the lesbian version of Wham's classic "Last Christmas." It's boppy, it's festive, it's romantic and it's fun but full of yearning and holiday wishes. It's got everything that makes a classic Christmas song.
As if this single isn't perfect enough, the full soundtrack is absolutely packed with superstar talent and exciting LGBTQ+ songwriters and artists on each track. In addition to Tegan and Sara, the album features holiday tracks by Anne-Marie, Charlie Hanson, Bebe Rexha, Shea Diamond, Sia, Brandy Clark, LP and more. Plus the whole album is produced by Grammy nominated songwriter Justin Tranter (Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, The Chicks).
"For all types of families, music matters more during the holidays than any other time of year," Tranter said in a statement. "To be given the honor to help create a holiday soundtrack that everyone can enjoy but celebrates LGBTQ talent is an actual dream come true for me!"
Happiest Season stars Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis as a couple going home for Christmas. What should be a happy family gathering is complicated by the fact that Davis' character hasn't come out to her family. It's a romantic comedy that perfectly captures the feeling of wanting to be yourself around those closest to you, but at the same time, not wanting to ruin Christmas for the whole family.
The film is directed by Clea DuVall and co stars Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Mary Holland, Burl Mosely, Victor Garber, and Mary Steenburgen. Happiest Season debuts exclusively on Hulu on November 25. You can listen to "Make You Mine This Season" now, and the full soundtrack comes out on November 6 from Facet Records/Warner Records.
