Arca released today the music video for "Desafio," lifted off his self-titled third album, Arca. The Jesse Kanda-directed visual is gorgeous and reflects the frenzied, melancholic nature of his song. "Desafio" translates in Spanish to "challenge" or "defiance," and that's exactly what this video does: balks expectations of artists--especially male ones--by infusing decidedly dark, S&M-leaning imagery with an ambiguous queer narrative.

In an i-Dinterview with photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, Arca said of his latest album, "If there's a sadness running through your life, you must attempt to tune yourself into a frequency where you harmonise with it because it's never going to leave you." Speaking to this, Arca's "Desafio" visual shows the producer wrestling with pain. Wearing a bondage-style leather outfit, Arca looks somewhat bruised and stumbles through a forest into the arms of various older men, who eventually join forces to lift the singer up.
