Our spooky cosmic chanteuse Lana Del Rey has been hiding from today's politically tumultuous reality, living, as she says, "right in the middle of the 'H' of the Hollywood sign." While creating her new album, Lust For Life, Lana admits she's spent most of her nights "perched high above the chaos that swirls within the city of angels, below," taking time to decide what her creative contributions to the world should be. "So each morning I have the luxury of asking myself, 'What shall I cook up for the kids today?'" she says in her newly released Lust For Life trailer. "Something with a little spice? Something with a little bitterness, but is ultimately bittersweet?"
Today, Lana chose spice, while referencing the bittersweet reality we're all living in under President Trump's oppressive administration. The singer's new witchy, sci-fi visual sees Lana loosening up a bit, appearing as a glitchy apparition that combines her signature vintage film references with the space imagery introduced in her recent "Love" music video. "Even though these times can feel a little bit crazy, they're not so very different from what other generations have experienced at one time or another before," Lana says. "And as we transition out of one era into another one, there's no place I'd rather be than smack dab in the middle of Hollyweird making this record for you."
Yesterday, the singer registered publication rights data for a new song, "Lust for Life," which reportedly includes a writing credit from the Weeknd. The two have previously worked together on two occasions, with Lana on the Weeknd's "Prisoner" off his 2015 album Beauty Behind The Madness and on last year's "Stargirl Interlude." Lana also tweeted "XO" over-the-weekend, which fans speculate could reference The Weeknd's label, or perhaps a new unannounced song title. "XO" also appears as an ingredient in Lana's potion during the Lust For Life teaser.
