"Index is for artists by artists."

Yves Tumor and DJ Sega are scheduled to head the first ever Index festival in NYC this February for Black History Month. The fest, organized by Brooklyn artist Richard Kennedy and singer/rapper DonChristian, is arranged to honor the work of Black and Latinx artists.

"Index is a festival curated by DonChristian and myself celebrating artists, academics, and innovators of black and latinx heritage," Kennedy told OUT. "In the current political climate, it is important to create and nourish spaces for all marginalized people to thrive and feel safe. We are taking over the Knockdown Center, a converted glass factory for 10 hours of music, poetry, ideas and celebration. Index is for artists by artists."

The lineup includes an notable range of queer artists, including Quay Dash, DonChristian, TYGAPAW, Yulan Grant, Rin Johnson, Richard Brookshire and bearcat. Aside from musical performances, the spring event will host installation art, speeches and talks intended to steer public dialogue.

Index festival will take place on February 18 at the Knockdown Center--tickets can be purchased, here.
