Exclusive: Singer Chris Pureka’s 'Silent Movie' Channels Quirky 1960s Espionage

Chris Pureka, a genderqueer singer-songwriter hailing from the hipster kingdom of Portland, has released her sixth album Back in the Ring, which has been in the making for five years.

The music video for "Silent Movie" draws inspiration from cat-and-mouse 1960s spy movies, accompanied by Pureka's smooth and sultry vocals.

"Much of my music and my previous music videos are on the heavy-serious side and I wanted to go in a different direction with this video," says Pureka. "The song, 'Silent Movie,' lends itself to a playfulness that we wanted to explore and also lyrically evokes certain spy themed imagery. Director, Eva Moss, and I prepped by watching The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, as well as some 60s spy films and tried to incorporate some of those themes with an emphasis on levity and parody."
