The year's 2017, so of course, when in doubt make a prequel--or just any form of reboot, really. And since we're already living in a bizarre dystopia, we might as well recreate The Matrix.
Details aren't completely set in stone, but Keanu Reeves will reportedly reprise one of his most famous roles, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros are in early developmental stages, allegedly considering a storyline centered on a Morpheus origin story, which could star Michael B. Jordan.
Lilly and Lana Wachowski, the original writers and directors of The Matrix Triology, have yet to comment on the possible reboot of the franchise, but their involvement will decide if Keanu takes the role or not. While promoting John Wick 2, Reeves said, "They would have to write it and direct it, and then we'd see what the story is, but yeah, I don't know, that'd be weird, but why not?"
Keanu, you just said it yourself--it'd be weird. Let's leave perfection where it should be.
The only welcome thing about a Matrix reboot ? Imagine the fashions we would get--they could go all Fifth Element and have someone, such as Jean Paul Gautier, lend their imagination to the film. That would certainly redeem Hollywood's lack of originality by delivering us the cyber-punk style our world truly needs.
