Happy Friday, Out readers!
I'm up in the mountains of Utah for the Sundance Film Festival, be on the lookout for plenty of movie reviews coming in the next week!
Speaking of movies, the nominations for the 97th Academy Awards have been announced! It was a big year for queer films at the oscars, with one movie in particular, Emilia Pérez making history as the most-nominated foreign film in the history of the Oscars and with Karla Sofía Gascón making history as the first out trans actor nominated for an Oscar.
Emilia Pérez has seen a lot of controversy this year, but I personally loved it and think it earned every one of its 13 nominations. As a trans woman, I deeply relate to her character and think it's a great example of trans representation.
While a lot of our favorite movies were nominated, some weren't, so make sure you check out list of this year's biggets snubs.
