Heated Rivalry fans might not be heading back to the cottage until next year, but they now have a new forbidden romance to look forward to.
Jacob Tierney, creator of the wildly popular hockey show, will now write, direct, and executive-produce Alexander, a new period drama about Alexander the Great and his tutor Aristotle for Netflix.
The upcoming show is based on the novel The Golden Mean by Annabel Lyon and will begin as the "Athenian empire is crumbling and the world’s greatest mind, Aristotle, arrives in Macedonia to tutor a volatile young prince, Alexander. Amid palace intrigue, forbidden love, brutal war and ruthless ambitions, their unlikely friendship shapes an empire and alters the course of history," the official description reads.
Fans of The Golden Mean will be in good hands as Heated Rivalry is largely considered to be a faithful adaptation of Rachel Reid’s Game Changer series. As a reminder, Tierney wrote and directed all six episodes in the first season.
Fellow Heated Rivalry executive producer Brendan Brady is also on board alongside Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan of Aggregate Films.
"I fell in love with Annabel Lyon’s book The Golden Mean years ago and have been dreaming of telling this story ever since,” Tierney said. "Brendan and I couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Aggregate and Netflix to bring this insanely compelling world to life."
The release date for Alexander has yet to be announced.
