There was almost a crossover event between Heated Rivalry and Overcompensating, but the stars of the popular gay hockey show were too booked and busy to make it a reality.
Overcompensating creator and star Benito Skinner admits that he tried to cast two of the stars of the steamy romance series in the second season of his hit queer comedy show, but was turned down.
Skinner told etalk that he was hoping to get Hudson Williams, who starred as closeted gay hockey legend Shane Hollander in Heated Rivalry, to play a role in Overcompensating, but he was too “busy, I think ultimately.”
Robbie G.K. also turned Skinner down because he couldn’t fit filming into his busy schedule. This is especially disappointing to fans because before his role as smoothie barista Kip Grady in Heated Rivalry thrust him into the spotlight, G.K. had a recurring role as Riley on the first season of Overcompensating.
“And we tried to bring Riley back, Robbie G.K., who we love so much, who was in season one,” he said before teasing that he’d find a way to get Hudson and G.K. on the show eventually.
“But again, those boys are busy, but it’s going to happen. One day there is going to be something,” he said.
Skinner also pointed out that they likely had to say no to his offer since Heated Rivalry season 2 is set to start filming on August 10, 2026.
“But I’m so excited to see season 2 for them,” Skinner said. “So like they’re busy, they have to go make their show.”
