Euphoria has woken up the timeline!
Season 3 premiered this past Sunday to extremely mixed reviews, as fans were scratching their heads after witnessing the wild direction the groundbreaking HBO show decided to go on.
If you thought main characters Rue (Zendaya), Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), Nate (Jacob Elordi), Maddy (Alexa Demie), and Jules (Hunter Schafer) would be headed back to California for the hazy, colorful teenage drama that the first two seasons were known for, you’d be dead wrong. Lexi's homoerotic musical, Rue's relapses, and Jules being catfished by Nate have nothing on the outrageous season premiere.
The episode starts with a five-year time jump and finds Rue working as a drug mule to pay off a nearly $44 million debt to Laurie, a drug trafficker who tracked her down after the events of season 2.
In following scenes, Rue is swallowing balloons filled with drugs, pooping them out, rinsing them off in a strainer, and then using that same strainer for pasta.
That’s not the only bonkers thing to happen that brought fans to social media in droves to complain about the new season.
The polarizing episode also follows Cassie as she tries to make it big on OnlyFans with some kinky content in an effort to pay for an extravagant wedding to Nate.
In the episode, Cassie dresses like a puppy with a collar and leash, with clips teasing that she'll also pose while dressed up like a baby with a pacifier and pigtails.
While adult baby/diaper lover and puppy play are fairly common kinks, the episode presents them with none of the accuracy or sensitivity one would hope for. Instead, fans think the scenes were mostly there for shock value.
Between cast members dating and breaking up, rumored feuds, Sweeney's controversial American Eagle ad, and questions about creator Sam Levinson’' deception of female characters and frequent nude scenes, the show has stayed in the headlines since it first came out.
Now, fans are flocking to social media to bash the show — and Levinson in particular — for making them wait four years for a new season just to humiliate the characters, give them an outlandish plot, and even have a full scene where Faye (Chloe Cherry) can’t stop farting.
