Chloe Cherry is keeping it real.
After waiting four years since the second season premiered, Euphoria fans will finally be able to watch the highly anticipated third season once new episodes drop this Sunday.
Introduced in season 2, Cherry plays Faye, a heroin addict who befriends Rue (played by Zendaya) as they both struggle with their sobriety. Season 3 picks up years after the events of season 2, with Faye opting to live a more lowkey lifestyle as a housewife, while Rue gets caught up in the drug cartel.
"People are going to be shocked by every single character's storyline. I like how season 1 started off with queer storylines. It was queer storylines that I had never seen in TV or in movies before, but I knew that people were like that in real life," Cherry tells Out.
Euphoria has been praised for pushing the envelope in terms of adult content, as the show has showcased sex positivity, high levels of drug use, crime, and complicated relationships that resonate with the LGBTQ+ community.
"When it comes to sexuality, things are not black and white," Cherry says. "Sexuality is absolutely on a spectrum for every single person. To me, being sex-positive doesn't mean everyone needs to go out and have a ton of sex. It just means don't judge people for their sexuality or the fact they have sex."
Prior to landing the role of Faye, Cherry actually worked as professional adult entertainer. She starred in over 200 films, including a parody of Euphoria, which caught creator Sam Levinson's attention.
Although Cherry was able to transition from adult content to Hollywood, the actress doesn't recommend that aspiring stars should begin their careers as erotic performers.
"Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, I would not recommend a singular person on this Earth get into the adult industry in an attempt to do something that is movies or TV or anything that's not in the adult industry. I believe that a person should only enter the adult industry if they want to have a career in the adult industry," she says.
Sydney Sweeney's character, Cassie Howard, even becomes a cam girl who performs on a site based on OnlyFans in season 3 of Euphoria, but Cherry still warns that sex work is still stereotyped in the real world.
"Nobody should ever enter the adult industry with the hopes of being seen as anything else. The only thing that entering the adult industry is going to guarantee is that you'll been as a porn star. If you're OK with being seen as a porn star for the rest of your life, that is the only reason that you should enter the adult entertainment industry... never to do other things."
Season 3 of Euphoria premieres Sunday, April 12, on HBO Max. To see the full interview with Chloe Cherry, check out the video at the top of the page.
