We'll miss the students of Las Encinas!

After eight seasons, Netflix’s hit Spanish teen drama Élite is coming to an end.

Élite, which followed a select few working-class students entering the world of an elite high school in Spain and their relationships with each other and with wealthier students at their school, has been known for its depiction of queer teens, with fans quickly falling in love with Omar (Omar Ayuso) and Ander (Arón Piper), two students who formed a relationship in the first three seasons.

While Ander has since left the show, Omar is making his return in the upcoming 7th season of the series and is still gay as ever. Élite has also featured several other queer characters and relationships throughout its five-year run.

“We are shooting the eighth season, which will be the last season of Élite. We ended on a high note,” Carlos Montero, the show’s creator, said during a recent press conference. “Jaime [Vaca, co-showrunner for Season 7], Netflix, and I thought it was time to end it. I say this with great regret because it’s been several incredible years in which I’ve met wonderful actors, we’ve worked with all the directors we wanted to work with and we’ve had the luxury of having Maribel these last two seasons. Élite changed everyone’s life, there are actors who started with us and it has been their springboard to be now world stars, it is happening to this cast and it is a pride to have contributed to that and to know that they have seen us all over the world and liked it.”

The seventh season of the show premieres on Netflix on Friday, and the eighth season was announced back in July. Now, we know that the eighth will be the last.
