Grammy winner Kim Petras says her record label has "refused to give [her] a release date, has refused to pay her collaborators, and has announced that she has "formally requested" to be dropped by the label.

Petras, who released songs like "Polo," "Freak It," and "I Like Ur Look" in 2025 and has said she is working on a new album, tentatively called Detour, posted on X social media today that the album "has been done for six months", but her label, Republic Records, has yet to set a release date for it or paid her collaborators on said album.

Whereas most of Petras's past songs were produced by Dr. Luke, her new songs are produced by Frost Children, Nightfeelings, and trans producer Margo XS.

Petras also said that she filmed a music video that has yet to be released, and is growing increasingly "tired of having no control over my own life or career." She says she wants to "self-fund and self-curate" her own music and has officially asked to be dropped by Republic Records.

The 33-year-old singer says that she put her own money into filming a music video for her next single two months ago, but has yet to hear about a release date. "Best MV I've ever done btw... 9 looks 6 setups 13 pairs of shoes..." she wrote. Petras also posted a message of support and love for her fans, and wrote, "I'm dropping Detour regardless."
