Kim Petras released a new song, titled "Pop Sound," as the lead single from her upcoming EP, Detour. The song is a pop-perfect banger that captures Petras's cultural references and artistic vision. Except that you can't really find the song on any major music streaming service at the moment.

Unfortunately, Petras's issues with record labels are far from over.

After pretty much begging for her record label to drop her as a signed artist a few weeks ago, Petras has now started a four-week schedule of releasing one new song per week — by herself, independently. This first new song, "Pop Sound," is now available on SoundCloud and YouTube.

To be clear, "Pop Sound" is not on Spotify, nor on Apple Music, given that Petras's label has been allegedly withholding the release of any new music by the artist.

Petras announced this new music rollout model in a video shared on X.

"I have an update/surprise for you I'm super excited about, and it's called Pretour," Petras explained. "Basically, for the next four weeks, I'm going to be dropping a song every week, bitch, and I'm so excited for you to hear these songs."

The singer continued, "Because the conversation with the label is still happening, I don't have a release date for my album yet. Obviously, as soon as I have that, I'll drop the album. But I just wanted to make the next four weeks really, really fun. And we made some visuals for these songs together that are definitely like zero-budget, like bullshit visuals, but they're also like art and everything, obviously. So you're going to be obsessed, and I'm obsessed, and it's so tea."

"So get into Pretour! You are going to be getting a song a week for four weeks, for free. So don't complain or say shit!" Petras teased. "Like, I don't want to hear y'all saying shit 'cause you're getting four songs in four weeks and that's tea. So you're gonna love it. I am everyone's favorite and I love you. So I'll see you next Tuesday."

In January, Petras discussed feeling "tired of having no control over [her] own life or career," arguing that she'd rather just fund and publish new music by herself.

According to the pop star, the Detour EP has "been done for six months, but my record label has refused to give me a release date or pay my collaborators' for the work they've done."

A saga that never ends!
