The upcoming film comes from Promising Young Woman writer-director Emerald Fennell.

It's almost time to step into the erotic, gothic world of Saltburn!

The first-look images for writer-director Emerald Fennell’s (Promising Young Woman) second feature film Saltburn are here, and we can’t wait to dive deep into the world of privilege, power, sex, and obsession.

Saltburn, set in the mid 2000s, follows an Oxford student named Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) who feels like an outsider until he meets Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), a handsome member of the wealthy elite at the school. When Felix invites him to his family’s estate, Oliver meets “a twisted bunch of characters who say and do things that will make you squirm.”

According to Vanity Fair, Fennell wanted to lean into controversial and visceral themes that would stick with audiences.

“We are all in this very strange world now, I think, of wanting. We’re just in a perpetual state of desire and need and want,” she said. “Our relationship with the things that we want when we look on Instagram, or we look at clothes, or we look at food, whatever it is: ‘I both want it and I’m disgusted with myself for wanting it.’”

“The thing is, we’re all disgusting perverts, aren’t we?” she said.

According to World of Reel, the movie will “shock” audiences with its eroticism and controversial “nudity and explicit scenes.” Still, they say it’s better than her first film Promising Young Woman, and expect it to be nominated for several Oscars.

The teaser trailer for Saltburn will be released this Wednesday. Saltburn also stars Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Mdekwe, Paul Rhys, and Carey Mulligan. It’s sure to be one of this year’s most controversial, and popular, films. We can’t wait to see it!
