Calling all of Hollywood's transgender men, transmasc and nonbinary actors! Your chance to step into the shoes of the world's foremost fictional secret agent ā James Bond ā has finally arrived.
As Variety reported, the hunt for the next 007 is underway, and Amazon MGM Studios has recruited casting superstar Nina Gold to find the next actor who carries the license to kill. Gold's credits include Game of Thrones, The Crown, The Force Awakens, Les MisƩrables, The Martian and Conclave. Last year, Gold was nominated for the first-ever casting Academy Award for her work on Hamnet.
There are at least 13 out queer men who could order a martini, shaken not stirred, with the suave style Bond fans demand of this historic member of the Majesty's Secret Service, as Out reported in August 2025. Veteran out actor Ian McKellen has also been on record since 2017 calling for a gay James Bond.
But this is 2026, the year in which the United States government announced its new counter-terrorism policy is to target "radically pro-transgender" groups, as The Advocate reported earlier this month. So, in response, why not cast a trans man or even a nonbinary actor as the next hero of MI6? Here are 10 picks for the first-ever transgender James Bond.
Elliot Page
Page will be seen in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey this July, and since his coming out has also appeared in The Tiger, Close to you and the television series The Umbrella Academy. Prior to his transition, Page was known for Juno, Inception, Flatliners and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Brian Michael Smith
Smith, who is best known for being the first out Black trans man cast in a television series regular role on 9-1-1 Lone Star, already played a spy in a short film titled, Who Are You? The Forgetful Spy.
Casting him as 007 would also make him the first Black Bond. He's also well-known for his role in The L Word: Generation Q.
Smith's costar on The L Word: Generation: Q, Sheng would be a first for the franchise in delivering an Asian James Bond. He also has action movie cred for his role in The Matrix: Resurrections.
Ian Alexander
Alexander was the first out transgender Asian-American person to act on television and the first out trans actor in a recurring role in a Star Trek television series.
The trans nonbinary actor played an out trans alien, so why couldn't Alexander step up to shoot bad guys as the next Bond? In addition to their role on Star Trek: Discovery, they provided the voice for Lev in The Last of Us: Part II video game and is also well-known for playing Buck Vu in The OA.
Blu del Barrio
Alexander's Discovery costar most recently appeared in the film Trap House as well as in two TV series, Max & the Midknights and Primos. As they told Out in 2022, they came out as trans nonbinary after Adira, the trans nonbinary character they played on the scifi series, came out to the characters played by Wilson Cruz and Anthony Rapp in a season 3 episode of Star Trek: Discovery.
Theo Germaine
The actor best known for They/Them, The Politician and Work in Progress also appeared in two episodes of 4400 as well as Spark, Sugar Baby and Desire Lines.
Elliot Fletcher
You've seen him in Shameless, The Fosters, Faking It, and Young Hollywood and the TV series Bloodhound, Y: The Last Man and Tell Me Your Secrets. He also has an extensive background in theater.
Zoe Terakes
The out nonbinary transmasc actor is best known for Wentworth, Nine Perfect Strangers and Ellie and Abbie but also appeared in The Office and Marvel Studios' Ironheart.
Chella Man
The disabled trans nonbinary bicyclist was one of Outās most eligible bachelors for 2024, and most recently competed alongside Schuyler Bailar and Cal Calamia in an Ironman competition in which they placed third as Team Iron Transmasc.
Asked for a comment, Calamia told Out, "James Bond is such a classic character that has been played by some of the greats. Having transmasc representation in such an iconic role would flip the world right side up. I'm free that day."
Calamia appeared in the 2024 documentary, Out of the Dark. Man's acting credits include Chestnut, Titans and The Device That Turned Me Into a Cyborg Was Born the Same Year I Was. Casting them would earn the Bond franchise its first Chinese-American and the first time the secret agent has been played by an actor who is Jewish!
Laith Ashley
Laith Ashley has become a very recognizable and trailblazing transgender model, actor, and activist. Fans will recognize him in hit projects such as FX's drama Pose, the LGBTQ+ dark comedy Unconventional, a member of The Pit Crew on RuPaul's Drag Race, and starring as a featured love interest in Taylor Swift's "Lavender Haze" music video.
