Hathaway is a gay icon for a reason. Not only has she starred in iconic and campy movies that have ended up in the queer cultural zeitgeist (think Brokeback Mountain and Les Mis), but she’s also an outspoken LGBTQ+ ally and activist.
And this year, she’s managed to add five brand-new movies to her filmography, ranging from seemingly hetero stories with a queer twist to movies with sexy sapphic moments.
Basically, what we're saying is that Hathaway is keeping her queer audience well fed this year. So in honor of her contribution to gay culture, we’re ranking her 2026 films, from straightest to gayest.
5. The Odyssey
Hathaway has always been Mother, but her playing Zendaya’s husband’s mother? Iconic. And sure to win her an Oscar nod.
But if that wasn’t enough for you, don’t forget that The Odyssey also features Robert Pattinson saying the line, “You’re pining for a daddy you didn’t even know, like some sniveling bastard,” to Tom Holland.
4. The End of Oak Street
On the surface, The End of Oak Street seems hetero through and through, but there are definitely things about it for the gays. Every gay boy wanted to marry Ewan McGregor. Full stop.
Plus, the characters go back in time and watch dinosaurs having sex while despairing about the loss of your secret book manuscript — even gayer! Hathaway also essentially stars as, PFLAG mom here, and her teen daughter has a surprisingly sweet queer romance that will have you remembering your first gay crush.
3. Verity
Hathaway opposite Dakota Johnson in a psychological thriller about writers? Gay catnip. Plus, the two leading ladies share an eerie but very sexy kiss in the trailer.
The sapphic moments in Verity will surely delight all of Hathaway's passionate gay fans, so don't miss the opportunity to see this movie once it hits theaters on October 2.
2. The Devil Wears Prada 2
Everyone was excited to see Hathaway play Andy Sachs again, but the gays were really watching to see Stanley Tucci reprise his role as Nigel, the iconic and debonair gay art director of Runway magazine. They waited 20 years to make a sequel and it didn’t disappoint!
1. Mother Mary
The Devil Wears Prada 2 put up a good fight, but Mother Mary just barely eked out a victory here. The relationship between the two leads is a heavily based on Lady Gaga’s homoerotic relationship with her costume designer, which means that not only is the film sapphic coded, but the fashion is a maximalist extravaganza, and the heat between Hathaway and costar Michaela Coel is off the charts.
