Zack Snyder Wrote a '300' Sequel — It's an Epic Gay Love Story

Army of the Dead director Zack Snyder says that he also worked on a 300 sequel during the pandemic, but Warner Bros. passed on it because it ended up being a gay love story.

"Over the pandemic, I had a deal with Warner Brothers and I wrote what was essentially going to be the final chapter in 300," he told The Fourth Wall, The Playlist's podcast. "But when I sat down to write it, I actually wrote a different movie." What movie did he write? A gay romance.

"I was writing this thing about Alexander the Great, and it just turned into a movie about the relationship between Hephaestion and Alexander. It turned into a love story. So it really didn't fit in as the third movie."

Snyder continued, "but there was that concept, and it came out really great. It's called Blood And Ashes, and it's a beautiful love story, really, with warfare. I would love to do it, [WB] said no... you know, they're not huge fans of mine. It is what it is."

Snyder is, of course, talking about the Justice League drama that resulted in HBO Max releasing "The Snyder Cut" of the film this year. The director and the studio famously did not get along well and Snyder almost left the project several times.

If you know anything about the ancient Greeks, you know that they were gay as hell, and we are craving a movie that depicts that honestly and shirtlessly. It's a shame that we won't be getting this one. Still, there's hope that Snyder could turn the script into an unrelated movie and make it separate from the 300 series of films.

Snyder's latest project is the Netflix zombie heist movie Army of the Dead, in select cinemas now and coming to the streaming platform on May 21. That movie features a digitally-inserted Tig Notaro, who was called in to replace Chris D'Elia in the film after he was accused of sexual misconduct by several women.

Notaro has become a breakaway sex symbol this spring from her appearances in the preview and posters for the film. When we first saw her look for the film, Out declared that "Tig Notaro is back reminding us all how hot butches can be."
