There are at least four reasons to see the upcoming Fox News docudrama Bombshell, and three of them are the stars. Who wouldn't want to see Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie as right-wing talking heads embroiled in a sexual misconduct scandal? But the fourth and most compelling reason to pony up the $17 ticket price? The wigs, mama, the wigs!
The film follows real-life journalists Megyn Kelly (Theron) and Gretchen Carlson (Kidman), plus the fictional Kayla Pospisil (Robbie), as they take on Fox News boss Roger Ailes. The trailer is just one scene: the women board an elevator together (after Robbie walks past Kate MicKinnon, playing a Fox News producer) and wait around awkwardly to reach the second floor, where the executive suite is located. "Hot in here," says Kidman.
Girl, it must be under that wig!
Yes, while the film stars two Oscar-winners and one Academy Award-nominee, the real stars of Bombshell are the glorious wigs these ladies are wearing. Kidman's teased bob, Robbie's blonde curls, and Theron's pussycat 'do have, as of the publish date of this article, been entered into the gay canon. These wigs should have been in the cast announcement for RuPaul's Drag Race UK. These wigs alone are worth both the cost of admission and a large popcorn/soda combo. So, like...$50?
Then, of course, there's the fact that Bombshell is based on a true story. Carlson sued Roger Alies in 2016, eventually settling for $20 million and unearthing a culture of sexual harassment at Fox News. If a pink pussy hat were a movie, Bombshell is it. Catch the film when it hits theaters this December.
