British tailors Thom Whiddet (pictured, right) and Luke Sweeney (pictured, left), founders of the bespoke label Thom Sweeney, have built up a great reputation across the pond for dressing the most dapper gentlemen: David Beckham, Javier Bardem and model David Gandy have all been spotted wearing one of their suits. But what about us mere mortals, who don't have the time (or budget) to get their measurements taken? Problem solved. This week, the e-retailer MrPorter launches Thom Sweeney's first ready-to-wear collection, right on time for spring.
Boasting the same blend of traditional Savile Row tailoring and a modern take on proportions --slim-fit, slightly cropped jacket, with broad lapels, and a snug shoulder-- that made their business a hit in London, the first Thom Sweeney collection to go off the racks stateside comes in two styles: A formal suit with a structured shoulder, and a more casual number. Both are available in either single or double-breasted cuts, in a variety of top-notch Italian wool fabrics.
Our favorite: The Weighouse suit in electric blue, which bares the name of the street where Whiddet and Sweeney have based their bespoke store. Perfect to ride the wave of bright blue shades that we've seen trending on every major fashion runway this season, it also comes in navy and gray for the more faint-hearted.
