I have a confession to make. I'm a rugged boy at heart--really, I am. While I've only been camping once as a child (complaining the entire time) and I consider no room service "roughing it," I dream of far off adventures. More specifically, I imagine traveling the world on the arm of reality TV swashbuckler Bear Grylls. First off, the man's name is Bear--swoon. Secondly, Grylls--who lived a former life as a member of the British special forces--has parlayed his manly, outdoorsy know-how into a lucrative career risking his life on camera to demonstrate the proper protocol should you find yourself, say, stranded on a desert island with only a a ball of twine, a roll of aluminum foil, and some bubble gum--we've all been there.
So, you can only imagine my heart went a-pitter-patter when word broke that Grylls will be the spokesman for Dockers next year. An interesting choice for the brand, seeing as khakis are thought of as the building blocks for a cubicle-bound life, but I appreciate that they're injecting a sense of rugged adventure into the brand by signing the adventurer. Fingers crossed that the pants remain the sole focus of the ads--no shirt required.
