Law Roach Named 'Stylist of the Year' For Second Year in a Row
Fashion stylist and Legendary judge Law Roach has been named "Stylist of the Year" for the second consecutive year!
For The Hollywood Reporter's Power Stylists 2022 ranking, Roach -- who has worked with high-profile clients such as Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, and Venus Williams, among others -- was awarded the prestigious title of "Stylist of the Year" for the second year in a row. Last year, Roach made history as the first Black stylist to ever receive this title. Since then, he's collaborated with Zendaya on "roughly 30 looks" between her red-carpet events for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dune, and Euphoria season two. Roach was also responsible for styling Venus Williams' looks during her promotional run for King Richard.
Other gay, powerhouse stylists who also made the list include Jason Bolden, Andrew Mukamal, and Jahleel Weaver. This was Bolden's first THR cover as the publication honored his recent collaborations with Michael B. Jordan, Yara Shahidi, Cynthia Erivo, Angelina Jolie, and Trevor Noah. Mukamal made the list for his work with Zoe Kravitz, who has been his client for eight years. Meanwhile, Weaver was honored in the 2022 ranking for having worked as Rihanna's stylist for the past decade.
"All my looks go viral," Roach told THR. He talked about being inspired by the aesthetic of Dune when styling Zendaya to promote the film. They also collaborated on red carpet events that Zendaya attended for the latest Spider-Man movie and the return of Euphoria to HBO. Roach said of his relationship working with the Hollywood A-lister: "Zendaya and I both have our goals, and we push each other to help achieve them."
Williams claims that she and Roach "immediately clicked" upon meeting each other. She personally wanted to be styled by him given that King Richard was such an important and symbolic project for her family.
"I felt like a glamorous superhero," Williams said of working with Roach.
The tennis legend explained that she's used to playing sports -- not walking red carpets -- and was pleased with the fact that Roach understood her style. In turn, Roach was also very proud of working with Williams, noting, "She's an icon to me. I grew up watching her and her sister Serena change the world."
