It was April 2009 when our Queen of the North, miss Brooke Lynn Hytes herself, tweeted the fateful photos. You remember the ones. A headless, slightly furry figure wearing a tight black jockstrap with "Hytes." across the waist band. Yeah, you read it: Hytes. PERIOD!
At DragCon in May she rolled the underwear out as a part of her merch line, posting it onto her site shortly after. "Everyone loves a good jockstrap," she told us in an interview at the time. "And I wanted to try to do something different with my merchandise than what other people were doing. It was for that reason; I wanted to put out something that I liked a lot and other gay men like a lot -- and make some money off of it in the meantime." As the year continued, she started to build out an underwear collection with thong panties and bra tops. But some ardent fans may have noticed that the jockstraps have recently disappeared from the performer's relaunched web store. Don't worry, they're back, back, back again!
Launched today, the Tom of Finland Store is now exclusively selling the Hytes. Jockstrap. The cotton piece doesn't seem to have undergone any alterations, and still features -- like any other jockstrap -- a "lightweight, breathable design" and "contoured pouch." While it seems that the performer had been selling the jockstrap for $22, it's now going for $35.
Obviously with a new retailer comes new imagery! Tom of Finland Store face Terry Miller took a turn in the underwear, seemingly in his own bathroom. We love to see it. This puts Hytes alongside other brands like CDLP and Lazoscmidl, as well as the official Tom of Finland leather jock.
This is great and all, but which queen is going to give a line of branded poppers? The world is your oyster girls!
