The Must-Haves That Drive My Inspiration Forward
What drives my innovation and pushes me forward in life is not exclusive to one person, place, or thing. The world around me is what truly inspires me to tackle anything and everything that comes way -- especially when it comes to my career. While people (including colleagues, friends, and new voices I meet) are key for my creative success, there's also five key elements in my circle that are critical to help achieve my goals.
Here, I'm sharing the five must-haves that drive my inspiration.
Must-Have: My Uniform
It's no secret that style inspires. Because really, what you portray on the outside often reflects what's going on in the inside as well. To that note, my daily uniform (which makes me feel empowered and confident) is a must in succeeding on a daily basis. I feel empowered and confident in my daily look (which is often black pants, a tee or sweater, and some sort of statement jacket) and I put forth that same vibe to the outside world when the uniform is on.
Music and an inspiring playlist is absolutely crucial to fuel me up and get me going on my commute to work -- and while I'm cranking out stories on Out.com. I can't even imagine feeling inspired to tackle the day without listening to artists that speak to me like Troye Sivan and Emeli Sandes or podcasts like Making Gay History, which profiles trailblazers that have made an impact in the LGBTQ civil rights movement.
Must-Have: A Comfortable Ride
A smooth ride that keeps me comfortable on my commute is absolutely crucial to my well-being. What drives me forward (literally) is the Genesis G70 with its sophisticated, plush interior and cool, sleek exterior. It's the ultimate inspiration.
Must-Have: A Mini Notebook
I carry a bag everywhere I go -- whether that be a crossbody style or a clutch silhouette. Given that I'm a writer by trade, I carry a mini notebook with me everywhere I go to jot notes as I get inspired. Sure, I could always use the "notes" section on my phone, but writing in a journal is much more personal to me.
