A pair of black-and-white favorites.

No, the solar eclipse didn't shift us into another plane of existence (that we know of), Karl Lagerfeld, one of the biggest names in global fashion and creative director of Chanel and Fendi, is collaborating with skater-favorite sneaker brand Vans.

According to WWD, the California-based footwear brand will launch its joint effort with the German designer on September 7. The pairing is truly a marriage of old and new, with Lagerfeld's couture clout bringing a weighty name to the shoe brand, which has long been a favorite among younger generations and even more so since outfits of the day have become an Instagram staple.

Of course, high-profile collabs aren't anything new to the footwear brand, having worked with Opening Ceremony, Alyx, Fear of God, and Marc Jacobs on limited edition lines in the past. "Fusing the two brands' respective universes, Vans' hallmark checkerboard pattern is revisited using a cameo motif depicting Lagerfeld's iconic prifle, with boucle fabric and a quilted letter K among other leitmotifs," writes WWD, illustrating details of the collection. Reported garments include a t-shirt depicting Lagerfeld in a checkerboard tie, and a black-and-white bomber.
