Manhattan's 57th and Fifth will now be referred to as 'Bill Cunningham Corner'

Late fashion photographer Bill Cunningham will have his favorite snapping spot renamed after him.

New York mayor Bill de Blasio announced the change will take place on Wednesday June 6th, during a ceremony at 57th and Fifth, which was Cunningham's favorite place to capture street style trends.

According to the New York Times, the corner's new name is only a temporary thing --legislation to formally change a street name is very slow. But Mayor de Blasio hopes to find other ways to honor the icon: "Bill Cunningham turned our sidewalks into runways and New Yorkers into models," he said in a statement. "His vivid photos captured our city's diversity in every sense of the word, and helped define New York as the fashion capital of the world."

Fans of the legendary artist had been petitioning for days to have the spot renamed "Bill Cunningham Corner" after the shutterbug passed away on June 25, at age 87.

Artist Donald Robertson posted about the renaming ceremony on Instagram:
