The actor will take over the Tony Award-winning role in August

After months of speculation and rumors, Neil Patrick Harris' replacement in Hedwig and the Angry Inch has been announced. The title wig will go to Tony Award nominee Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon) when the show extends its run on Broadway.

The news comes after the show took home four trophies at the 2014 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actor in a Musical. Harris, who has been performing seven nights a week since the show opened in late April, will sign off on August 17. Rannells will take over the role for a limited run starting three days later.

Rannells was last seen on HBO's hit series, Girls, which bumped him up to a regular following the cancelation of Ryan Murphy's short-lived gay family comedy, The New Normal.

According to Entertainment Weekly, this is not Rannells first time as Hedwig. The actor took on the role in a 2001 Austin, TX production.
