As the most visible trans person in music since coming out in 2012, Laura Jane Grace has the burden of being a symbol for many of her fans who may not understand transgender issues. But that doesn't mean she has it all figured out. In the 10-part documentary series, which premieres next month, the lead singer of Against Me! travels around the country and interviews other trans men and women about their hardships.
"The opportunity I had while shooting this show was nothing short of tremendous," Grace tells Time magazine. "Getting the chance to listen to other people tell their stories of how life shaped their identities and views on gender couldn't help but further inform my own understanding of just how complicated and also how simple all of it really is."
The series premieres Friday, October 10, for National Coming Out Day.
