Duncan James of Blue Is All Gay, Except When He's Not

The question of labels is interesting, but the Instagrams are scrummy.

Not so many British boy bands have crossed the pond successfully. There's The Beatles and One Direction. End of list. But there have been millions of choreographed point-and-winks at girls and thousands of buckets of hair product in the generations between.

So maybe if was a tiny bit shortsighted of us Yanks to skip right over Blue. No idea about the music--are they any good?--but cutie (and "legendary lothario") Duncan James would have been a good reason to pay more attention.

In brief, Blue is James, Antony Costa, Lee Ryan, Simon Webbe who joined up in 2000 to be an R&B-influenced pop band, and achieved, per Wikipedia, "commercial success in the United Kingdom and many other countries, including Ireland, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, France, Australia and New Zealand," took a break from 2005-2011 and then came back representing U.K. in the Eurovision song contest.

The big news in that hiatus was the James came out as bi in a News of the World interview in 2009. Now he says he's all gay all the time (but could still fancy a woman). And he Instagrams pictures like this one.

Here's what he said to Gay Star News about his sexual orientation recently: "I think to myself, I sleep with men, so that makes me gay. Regardless of whether I sleep with women or not, I'm still sleeping with men so I'm gay. So I'm still attracted to women, I could still easily sleep with a woman. I haven't in the last couple of years but I think if I meet a girl I could still have a relationship with her.... I could still be romantically and sexually attracted involved with a girl."

Not clear? OK, one more time: "But I still call myself gay. I'm a gay guy. I like men, so that makes me gay. Don't get me wrong, I think people can be bisexual. When I came out as bisexual at the time, it was just easier to use the word. I do say I'm gay, but I don't really care about labels. I don't really care if people want to call me bisexual or gay."

Now that's settled. Feel free to return to googling his pictures and being grateful he's got better hair than when he came out.
