The Mouse House has found yet another way to reinvent the Disney Princesses, this time with a little inspiration from Project Runway. (Or should we say, "Project Rungay"?)
The Princess Designer Collection features ten dolls, reimagined as if they were fashion models stepping from the pages of a classic Vogue. They come in intricate runway gowns, with packaging that displays the designer sketches and renderings. A glimpse of those images (seen here) were given an early showing in pamphlets handed out at The Disney Stores. The dolls themselves make their debut at the 2011 Disney D23 Expo and will appear exclusively in Disney Stores beginning August 22.
At the special Legends of Disney Awards ceremony on August 19th, the dolls will be presented to actresses Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid) and Paige O'Hara (Beauty and the Beast).
High fashion doesn't come cheap, though. Each princess is expected to cost $59.50 and will be in limited release.
