Prada's Statement Piece of the Season Hits Stores

Miuccia Prada has confessed on numerous occasions, even to us here at Out, that she enjoys finding the beauty in things that are typically seen as ugly or unattractive. Season after season she takes these inspirations -- hospital smocks, golfing garb and the like -- and ties it together in a package that ultimately becomes one of the most coveted collections for critics, editors and retailers alike. On top of that, there is usually a Prada must-have, for men and women, that everyone swoons over and that is easily recognizable as the season's statement piece. For spring it was her banana-print tops, striped skirts and dresses for the ladies and the hideous/gorgeous platform espadrille-creeper-brogues for the boys (here in New York they're everywhere). Before that it may have been fisherman waders or perforated leather clothing. As fall merchandise hits the stores, we look back a few months and think of the sparkly Lurex polos, so tacky yet somehow so marvelous, as the piece de resistance of her fall collection. Be forewarned, gentleman, we just got word that the polos have hit stores, so if you're looking to be the first to have the Prada "It" item, the time has come, but it won't come without parting with some pretty pennies. The shirts retail at about $910, but isn't that worth it to know your Miuccia-approved?
