With 31 of the necessary 32 votes publicly secured to pass NY gay marriage in the state Senate, Democratic Senators (among many others!) are quite peeved about the amount of time it's taken to conduct a vote. Today, Senators Liz Krueger, Michael Gianaris, and Adriano Espaillat, in an attempt to moves things forward, held a press release about the absurdity of the Republican congress' cockblock of the bill.
"Why aren't we bringing it for a vote? It's outrageous," said Krueger.
"We should stop playing games with people's lives," added Adriano.
An obvious last-ditch effort by state Republicans, the delays have put a slight damper on the bill that Gov. Andrew Cuomo was recently quoted as being "cautiously optimistic" about. At this moment, the live feed of the New York State Senate room displays some empty chairs to the tune of soft jazz hold music. One has to wonder, is this an attempt to stall the vote until after Pride? Because that would be a really dick move, Republicans.
