Never Fear, DC's Stormwatch Is Still Queer

Call it a fair trade for eliminating Superman's red underwear. While just about everything else is changing at DC Comics this September, it's good knowing that some things will remain same -- like gay characters Apollo and Midinighter (whom you can catch up on here). As part of the companies line-wide relaunch, comics' lesser known gay couple will finally star in a ongoing mainstream series with Stormwatch #1 (they previously existed in DC's smaller Wildstorm imprint).

Some were afraid that the previously established gay heroes might turn straight during the white-wash DC is implementing on all of its characters. Stormwatch writer Paul Cornell however, quickly rested such worries.

"Apollo and Midnighter, as you're probably going to ask, are out and proud because I wouldn't have written this book if they weren't," Cornell revealed in a recent interview with Comic Book Resources. "Not that I had to protest about that because DC was actually quite adamant."

Stormwatch #1 will be the second DC title starring a gay character launching this September, right along with Batwoman #1. Is it too early to ask for a team-up?
