And So it Begins: Men's Fashion Week Kicks Off in Florence with Band of Outsiders

Let the games begin, kiddies. Men's Fashion Week has officially commenced and it started off with a bang (or Band, rather) with a collection courtesy of our personal geek-chic crush Scott Sternberg's label Band of Outsiders. The designer was the featured guest for this season's Pitti Uomo, bringing a dose of classic Americana to Italy. Distilled through the lens of what many consider the truest American art form, musical theatre, Scott pulled inspiration from the debonair leading men from movie musicals of the Technicolor age -- think Singin' in the Rain and West Side Story. Sternberg explained that,"guys like Gene Kelley and George Chakiris represented a completely different masculine ideal... a guy who can just break out into dance with full confidence as a means of expression. It's so different from today yet somehow felt very fresh to me." Musicals and fashion? Doesn't get any gayer than that, and we give it a whole-heated stamp of approval.

In addition to his snazzy threads, Sternberg is known for his fanciful shows and you know he wasn't about to disappoint the slick Italians. Combining live dance performance, cinema and theatre, the show re-imagined these classic film moments (above) for the delighted audience and demonstrated US showmanship at its best.
