Be Good, Johnny Weir

Sometimes, as much as I want to buck or break or sidestep stereotypes, I find myself falling right smack into them and then, since I'm there, happily splashing around. Case in point: I love me some figure skating. The spanglier, the spandexier, the nude hose-ier, the better. And I admit it, I love me some Johnny Weir. The American figure skater offers the same kind of spectacle-ular entertainment that Lady Gaga does (which makes his skate to "Poker Face" last year all the more perfect) and even if you find him pompous or ridiculous (he's both), it's hard to take your eyes off of him.

Thankfully the good folks at the Sundance Channel feel the same way and kick off a new reality series, Be Good Johnny Weir, tonight at 10:30 pm EST. Though Weir has famously dodged questions about his sexuality in the past, the show's preview clips (above and below) seem to finally put to rest any doubt about which team Johnny is skating for. Or maybe I just can't see beyond the stereotypes (and glitter and fur and flashing us his pert little ass)?
