The Queen of All Queens has spoken!
The new Tennessee bills that prohibit drag artists from performing in public places have seen incredible pushback ever since they were implemented.
In a recent interview with ABC News, two-time RuPaulās Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon doubled down on her opinions of the ban, saying, āItās hypocritical, to say the least. Thereās so many things that I think are much more unsavory for children to be witnessing. But because theyāre heteronormative, or because theyāre adhering to gender norms, they get overlooked.ā
She continued, āRight now, weāre looking at drag and how it affects children, as though all drag takes place in front of children. Weāre adult human beings capable of knowing what not to put in front of children. We make drag appropriate for kids, if kids are going to be there. And if kids shouldnāt be there, we make it known as well.ā
She also made reference to her recent stint in Chicago on Broadway, saying, āI create art, which talks about [the hatred.] I get on stage and perform to show that what I love to do is just get on stage and entertain folks. Itās nothing different from any other artists, I just happen to do it in drag, a little more fabulously than some artists.ā
When the fan was first announced, Monsoon tweeted, āOurs is a revolution of love, empathy, and truth ā you canāt ban those things. We will fight this battle the way our predecessors did: with grace, compassion, and throwing a brick if we have to.ā
All hail the Queen.
