'Drag Race's Gia Gunn Is Starting Drama on Twitter With Other Queens

Gia Gunn and Gottmik

The boom boom gun?

New year, new season of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Friday marked the debut of RuPaul's Drag Race season 14. The premiere episode introduced six new queens into the Werk Room -- more to come next week -- and a fresh wave of discourse.

This year, chatter got started early on when the cast was officially announced as the show promised to debut its first heterosexual male contestant. A little less loudly, the cast also boasted two trans contestants, Kerri Colby and Kornbread Jete, who both made lasting impressions in the premiere. This marked the first time that two out trans women competed on a regular season of the show.

"So happy to see a trans person on an actual season of drag race," Gia Gunn, who competed on Drag Race season six before returning for All Stars season four. "The doors that I've opened..."

Gunn has a way of stepping onto the scene with only intentions of burning it all down. And that was clearly her aim here.

The responses were quick.

"I love my fake season," season 13 finalist Gottmik responded. Gottmik made history as the first out trans man to compete on a regular season of Drag Race last year. Kylie Sonique Love, who was the first person in show history to come out as trans, making her admission on the season two reunion before returning to win All Stars six, also responded with a GIF. Both replies got more likes than Gunn's original post, a phenom that's known on Twitter as a "ratio."

Back in September, Love clarified how things went her first taping of the show.

"To be very clear since so many people want to make a BIG fuss about it I WAS THE FIRST EVER TRANS CONTESTANT TO EVER BE ON RUPAULS DRAG RACE FRANCHISE," she wrote. "2009 they casted me knowing I identified as trans I didn't present female at the time bc I was in the early stages of my HRT."

Gunn responded to Gottmik's tweet, writing "let me clarify ... trans WOMEN."

In addition to Love and Gottmik there are other queens to be added to this list: Monica Beverly Hillz made show history in season five when she came out while competing. Peppermint also came out during her Meet the Queens interview before the airing of season nine. All of these performers -- which don't count the international names -- came before Gunn.

While she didn't respond to the tweet specifically, Peppermint tweeted as the chatter started around Gunn's post. "Um okay girl hahaha," she wrote. Honestly, what else needs to be said.

After a while, Gunn tweeted again.

"A friendly reminder why I never talk about that show anymore,' she wrote. "Ok going back to doing trans things..."

Hopefully, that includes wearing a mask.
