Looks like the boom boom gun has some things to get off her chest!
RuPaul's Drag Race alum Gia Gunn, who appeared on season six of the show before appearing on season four of All Stars, took to Instagram Live today to get some things off her chest. Of her many thoughts, she wanted to address the ongoing global pandemic and the social distancing steps we've all personally taken to stymie its impact.
"I think the whole mask thing is ridiculous," the performer said on Instagram live in a clip that's since been posted to Twitter. " I honestly think this whole COVID-19 thing is a hoax. I think everybody that is taking precautions is cute and it's definitely the thing to do but I also think that a lot of people are brainwashed."
*Looks straight to camera in complete silence.* Reader, please don't listen to this.

Since the viral pandemic began there are a reported 490,000 global deaths linked to it. This is only a fraction of over 9.5 million confirmed cases, but it's still quite an impactful number. Reports have shown that in places like China, Italy, and New York, when social distancing and personal protective equipment is utilized (like, a mask) the rate of transmission decreases, leading to less cases, and by extension less death.
"I think the more and more and more that we look around and see each other with masks on, the more influenced that we are going to be to also put our masks on," Gunn continued in the clip. " Which then, to me, insinuates to me that things are not okay."
Well yes, that's how social cues work; the group does a thing and that encourages others within the group to follow suit. Not sure if that's a bad idea when we're all just trying to save lives.
"I'm here to tell you guys that I think things are more okay than what the government is allowing us to think," Gunn, who certainly made herself into a controversial figure on Drag Race, said.
We should be clear here that it's less so the government that has pushed for these restrictions, it's the health sector. Donald Trump and Mike Pence refuse to wear masks, and have at all points insisted that social distancing guidelines put in place by regions like New York City have been overbearing. Trump has, at many times, been leading the push against shutting down, regardless of the human cost.
But you know, if that's the side you want to be on ... have at it!
