One of Saturday Night Live's newest additions says the show is "really gay" in a new comedy special.

Kam Patterson, who joined SNL as a featured player this season, was a part of Netflix Is a Joke's comedy showcase Kill Tony: Once Upon a Time in Texas, where he joked that he has "never seen" SNL and said the late-night sketch show is "really gay."

"I'm gonna be honest, I'm gonna keep it 100 percent with y'all. In the nicest way possible, it's gay," Patterson says about SNL in his set on the special. "It's really gay, dog. It's gay as fuck."

"Understand something, I was on national television doing this," he said, reenacting the hand performance moves he did in a recent sketch. "I've shot at somebody before. You understand me? You understand how crazy that change is in life?"

Patterson was referring to a recent sketch called "Bob Army." In the sketch, host Glen Powell, Bowen Yang, and Sarah Sherman played soldiers in the Army who led the "Bob Army," a special division of soldiers with the fiercest bobs. Patterson was part of the "Bang Battalion," a rival group that has bangs and entered the room doing voguing hand gestures.

In his set, Patterson also noted that he thinks other people are more excited for him to be on the show than he is, noting, "I'm 26 and I'm Black. I've never seen the show!"

"It's not for me, it's for white people," he added, noting how he had never heard of celebrity guest hosts Glen Powell and Miles Teller.

The jokes were part of Patterson's set in the recent Kill Tony: Once Upon a Time in Texas comedy special hosted by Tony Hinchcliffe and Brian Redban. The comedy special featured a panel of comedians — Gabriel Iglesias, Roseanne Barr, and Rob Schneider — who performed short sets in addition to being judges.

Kill Tony is the name of Hinchcliffe and Redban's podcast, which often features controversial comedians. Hinchcliffe himself stoked controversy in 2024 when he performed at a rally for Donald Trump and called Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage." He has also made homophobic jokes.

The set comes after the recent departure of Bowen Yang, who was SNL's most visible queer player.
