The Last of Us doesn't just deliver gripping storytelling — it's also a masterclass in survival that shows audiences how to be resourceful and adaptable in a post-apocalyptic world.
Attending the red carpet event for the premiere of The Last of Us season 2, Out caught up with the cast of the series and asked: If you ever found yourself in such a dire situation, what would be their best survival tactic?
Instead of emphasizing a physical skill, Merle Dandridge highlighted a mindset that is crucial for making it through the worst. "Resilience and courage," she told Out. "I'm always going to stand up and look for the solution. I'm really good at crisis management."
Tati Gabrielle, who joined this season of the HBO series to play Nora, shared a similar approach. "I'm a high-anxiety person at other times… But when something is happening to my loved ones, I woosah and say, 'Okay, what do we have to do?'"
Meanwhile, Rutina Wesley brought up a different but equally valuable skill: "Being alert. Someone can come out and get you at any time, so you have to stay on your toes."
Isabela Merced, who plays Dina on The Last of Us season 2, took a more hands-on approach to survival. "I have a really good shot, and I know my way around a handgun," Merced shared. "I have no physical capabilities, but I have really good aim."
Spencer Lord, stepping into the role of Owen, agreed with Merced and commented on the importance of being armed and ready. "You need to be strapped and ready at all times," Lord remarked. "I'd make sure I'm well-versed with all the weapons."
Both mentally and physically, the actors from The Last of Us seem ready to take on the apocalypse — on-screen and off.
