Megan Thee Stallion went viral over the weekend, not for a new hit song, but because her fairytale love story crashed and burned.
The bisexual Grammy-winning rapper publicly ended her relationship with NBA star Klay Thompson on Instagram over the weekend, accusing him of cheating.
The “WAP” singer hard launched her relationship with Thompson in July 2025 at the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala, where she gushed about how they met while on the red carpet. “Oh, we met and it was such a meet cute it was like a f—king movie,” she said. “I won’t tell you how and I won’t tell you when, but it was a movie.”
The couple quickly started posting photos on social media, and in October, Megan dropped the song “LOVER GIRL,” inspired by her whirlwind romance with Thompson. Things got even more serious in November, when Megan posted a TikTok video of her cooking Thanksgiving dinner for Thompson and his family. Then, in February, she hired Thompson’s favorite group, Bone Thugs N Harmony, to perform at his 36th birthday party, and he bought her a powder blue Bentley for her 31st birthday.
However, their very public love story didn’t stop the relationship from imploding, and now it’s all anyone can talk about on social media. Rumors are spreading like wildfire, but what really happened?
Who is Klay Thompson?
Thompson is a four-time NBA champion and five-time NBA All-Star who spent the first 13 seasons of his basketball career playing for the Golden State Warriors.
One half of the “Splash Brothers” alongside Steph Curry, Thompson is widely considered one of the best three-point shooters of all time. Thompson now plays for the Dallas Mavericks after signing a three-year, $50 million contract in 2024.
Before dating Megan, he was in a relationship from 2018 to early 2020 with actress Laura Harrier.
Why did Megan Thee Stallion break up with Klay Thompson?
Without naming the athlete, Megan put Thompson on blast and accused him of cheating in her Instagram Stories on April 25.
“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house...got 'cold feet,'" she wrote. "Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season now you don't know if you can be ‘monogamous'???? bitch I need a REAL break after this one .. bye yall.”
After not even a year of dating publicly, Megan announced she and Thompson were calling it quits because cheating is a “non-negotiable” for her.
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay. Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward,” Megan told Page Six in a statement. “I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”
Did Klay Thompson cheat with Lexie Brown?
After Megan announced her split with Thompson, rumors quickly started swirling that he cheated on her with WNBA star Lexie Brown. Despite the rumor going viral, there is no evidence of an affair, and Brown has denied the allegations against her.
“I’ve seen what’s being said online and I want to be clear, none of it is true and I have no involvement in this situation,” Brown wrote on her Instagram Stories on Sunday, April 26.
