Kevin Spacey Charged With Four Counts of Sexual Assault in UK

Just as he was attempting a comeback, Spacey is facing criminal charges again.

Just as he was trying to make his unwanted comeback, actor Kevin Spacey has been charged with four counts of sexual assault in the UK.

"The CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) has authorized criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, for four counts of sexual assault against three men," Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said in a statement.

"He has also been charged with causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. The charges follow a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation."

The charges come from three accusers: one who says he was sexually assaulted by Spacey twice in London in March 2005, one who said Spacey assaulted him in August 2008, and a third who claims Spacey assaulted him in Gloucestershire in April 2013.

The man with the 2008 allegations also alleges that Spacey forced him to have penetrative sexual activity without consent that same month.

After his acting career was rightfully derailed by a wave of sexual assault and misconduct allegations, Spacey had started to return to acting recently. Last year he was cast in the independent Italian movie The Man Who Drew God directed by Franco Nero.

More recently, this month, Spacey was announced as the star of 1242 - Gateway to the West, a Hollywood picture starring Eric Roberts, Christopher Lambert, and Terrence Stamp. In the film, Spacey is set to play a "deeply spiritual man" named Cesareani who meets the grandson of Genghis Khan in a castle in Hungary in the year 1242.

In 2017 actor Anthony Rapp accused the two-time Oscar-winner of assaulting him at a party in the 1980s when he was underage. While Spacey denied the allegations, other victims also stepped forward, with eventually over 20 people accusing Spacey of sexual abuse and misconduct. None of the accusations led to prosecution, some because the accusers died, some because of statute of limitations, and others for various other reasons.

As Spacey is not currently in the UK, the charges against him can't be formally applied until he enters the country. The CPS hasn't announced if they plan on making an extradition request.
