Tom Daley hates the water???
That's one of the biggest secrets the Olympic gold medalist has revealed in his latest interview with Radio Times, where he's the cover star for the current issue. In the interview, Daley, who is most famous for being an Olympic diver and spending lots of time in and around swimming pools, said that he actually hates to swim.
Daley was being interviewed about his recent Comic Relief fundraiser where he rowed, cycled, swam, and ran from Stratford to his hometown of Plymouth in order to raise money for charity. A part of the challenge saw him swimming in cold, open waters. A documentary about the feat, Tom Daley's Hell of a Homecoming, airs on BBC One and iPlayer Monday, March 14.
Now, we know that the swimming part, despite being in what should be his natural habitat, was actually the worst for him. According to the Radio Times, Daley doesn't like to swim, making the swimming part of his recent challenge "a nightmare."
Daley, who is famous for spending about ten seconds at a time in swimming pools after diving into them, won his first Olympic gold medal last year in the men's synchronized 10-meter platform at the Tokyo Olympics. He entered his first Olympics at the young age of 14, and won his first bronze medal four years later at the London 2012 Olympics. He picked up another bronze in Rio, and then another last year in Tokyo.
In the interview, Daley also talked about what it's like being a father with his husband, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. Now that he's done diving in the Olympics, Daley also admitted that he's looking for a new career, and fashion designer is at the top of the list.
The athlete has already gotten one foot in the door, as he recently started a business selling knit kits. Daley went viral during the Tokyo Olympics as he would knit while sitting on the sidelines at the events, a hobby he said he was inspired to get into by his husband. Now, his kits allow others to knit and crochet at various difficulty levels.
