How an On-Screen Kiss Helped Rebel Wilson Come Out

The former Pitch Perfect star has more range than anyone thought.

It's been a busy year for Rebel Wilson.

First, the Pitch Perfect star landed her first dramatic role with The Almond and the Seahorse.

The film, about a love affair between two women whose other partners are both suffering from traumatic brain injuries, is due to be released on December 16.

"I was so nervous. Charlotte Gainsbourg was the first woman I'd ever kissed," said Wilson about her co-star in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

"Weirdly, I think that our scenes could've been a little steamier," she added. "With male directors, I think they were being cautious and respectful."

In June - several months into The Almond and the Seahorse's filming - Wilson revealed she was in her first real-life relationship with a woman: fashion designer Ramona Agruma.

"I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince," wrote Wilson in an Instagram post at the time. "But maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess."

However, Wilson said a columnist at the Sydney Morning Herald forced her to come out sooner than she was ready.

"That kind of rushed it in a way that was really uncomfortable because we didn't have time to tell everybody," Wilson told The Hollywood Reporter. "I didn't want a journalist to be the one to release a story like that."

Most recently, in November, Wilson announced the birth of her first child, Royce Lillian, via surrogate. "This has been years in the making," she wrote in an Instagram post.

In the Hollywood Reporter interview, Wilson opened up about how filming The Almond and the Seahorse helped her come out.

"If I hadn't had the experience with Charlotte... I don't know if I would have ever met Ramona," said Wilson. "Having those experiences opened my heart up to it as a possibility."
