"On the heels of the tragedy that happened in Club Q in Colorado Springs I want to remind everyone how important queer visibility is and how important community is," the popstar said.

Once again, Dove Cameron has won an award and dedicated it to the people who matter most to her - the LGBTQ+ community. This time, the dedication came after she picked up her first American Music Award.

Cameron opened up the awards by performing her seductive sapphic hit "Boyfriend" and then won the first award of the night for Best New Artist.

As soon as she accepted the award, Cameron showed why she's one of the most eloquent queer artists out today.

"I want to start by saying that every award that I ever win will always first and foremost be dedicated to the queer community at large," she began her acceptance speech.

"You guys have carved out such a space for me to be myself and to write music about it and I have never felt safer or more loved or more supported, and I hope I can give you some semblance of that same feeling in my music," she continued.

But Cameron didn't just dedicate her award to the queer community in general, she also brought up the terrible mass shooting at a queer nightclub in Colorado Springs.

"On the heels of the tragedy that happened in Club Q in Colorado Springs I want to remind everyone how important queer visibility is and how important community is," Cameron said. "I want to direct your attention toward organizations like GLAAD and The Trevor Project for what you can do right now."

"I want to remind you that you are made absolutely right and you are so loved and so held and I want to thank you for supporting me and thank you for holding this space, I'm holding it for you too," she finished.

Cameron made a similar dedication earlier this year when she won her first MTV Video Music Award, also for Best New Artist.

"I want to dedicate this to all the queer kids out there who don't feel that they can take up space and inhabit the fullness of who they are," Cameron said in her VMAs speech. "Thank you for getting an overtly queer song onto mainstream radio."

"Thank you for supporting me as the persona and the artist that I am, I hope in that way you've also given that privilege to yourself," she continued. "I love you so much."

Seeing this kind of genuine appreciation for queer fans and queer community on such a big stage is always a highlight, and we hope Cameron keeps on winning awards so she can shine a spotlight on the LGBTQ+ community for all queer people.
