"To call this disturbing action 'homophobia' would mean that the attacker had a 'fear of' queer people. Which is f*cking b*llshit. This human's heart was full of HATE and ANGER."

Miley Cyrus said she is "devastated" to learn that one of her Brazilian fans had been murdered over the weekend in an alleged homophobic hate crime.

Cyrus found out about the murder when a fan shared a post written by the boyfriend of Gabriel, the man murdered in the attack, on Twitter, and tagged the artist in it.

"I am devastated to find out a smiler (the name for Miley's fans) has brutally lost their life due to hate, judgment, and injustice!" she wrote when she retweeted the story. "To call this disturbing action 'homophobia' would mean that the attacker had a 'fear of' queer people. Which is f*cking b*llshit. This human's heart was full of HATE and ANGER."

Cyrus continued, saying that it wasn't the killer who was "scared" in the situation, it was the victim, Gabriel. "This is exactly why the importance of my mission to fight against this type of cruelty w love, acceptance, and FREEDOM is at the very top of my priorities and is the purpose of my existence on this planet," she said. "I couldn't imagine if this happened to one of my best friends. And knowing this happened to someone that loved me and I love in return breaks my heart! #WeWontLetThemWin."

The post is being shared with the hashtag #JUSTICAPORGABRIEL, or Justice for Gabriel.

"This is Gabriel, he is 22 years old, my boyfriend, my best friend, the love of my life, we've been together for almost 3 years..." the boyfriend wrote in his post. "This Tuesday, he was murdered with three shots in his head, on a barber shop here in Embu das Artes (SP - Brazil)."

"They killed him because of who he is, who he loves, a pure-hearted person that was mean to no one, always helped everyone," he continued. "And today, I had to say goodbye to the love of my life with my heart aching and sadness. It hurts me the most knowing I won't hear his voice anymore, receive a 'good morning' text, or wake up next to him feeling loved in his arms."

Brazilian news source Globo1 reported that 22-year-old Gabriel Carvalho Garcia was shot three times, and that his family thinks homophobia was the killer's motivation.
