Reba McEntire Almost Played Kathy Bates’ ‘Titanic’ Role

With gentle hands and the heart of fighter, she almost survived an iceberg!

A single mom who works too hard, who loves her kids and never stops. With gentle hands and the heart of a fighter, Reba McEntire is a survivor -- and she almost survived the sinking of the Titanic.

During an episode of Bravo's Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen and guest Morris Chestnut played "The McEntire Truth," in which they had to decide if random facts about the country singer's life were true or false. Did McEntire hide tubes of lipstick in her hair at the peak of its height? No. Does McEntire have a "strange physical reaction to eggplant parmigiana? Yes, but she won't say exactly what that reaction is. Has she won multiple hot dog eating contests? No.

Was Reba McEntire almost in Titanic? Yes!

McEntire confirmed that she's been offered the role of the Unsinkable Molly Brown, the boisterous, new money socialite who helps doll up Leonardo DiCaprio before his big first class dinner. McEntire had taken off three months to shoot the film, but had to drop out when production was delayed due to her touring schedule. "We were on tour, and had a lot of people on the payroll," she explained. A queen for the people!

While Kathy Bates is obviously iconic in Titanic, it's hard not to imagine McEntire telling that story about her husband lighting his money on fire with her particular brand of southern charm, or helping get Leo into his tux. Who knows, maybe we'd still be listening to Reba sing "My Heart Will Go On." Spooky.
