At One Grand Books' closing party on Monday, the legendary songwriter will read from his most beloved novels.
One Grand Books--the bookstore dedicated to influencers' 10 works of literature they'd bring with them if stranded upon a desert island--is closing its pop-up location at Industry City in Brooklyn this coming Monday, May 23. To celebrate, acclaimed songwriter Rufus Wainwright, one of the individuals whose desert island list is currently curated in the bookstore, will be reading excerpts from his selected titles.
Wainwright's list includes:
The Way We Live Now, by Anthony Trollope.
Tess of the D'urbervilles, by Thomas Hardy.
The Magic Mountain, by Thomas Mann.
Love in the Ruins, by Walker Percy.
Madame de Pompadour, by Nancy Mitford.
Tennesee Williams: Mad Pilgrimage of the Flesh, by John Lahr.
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis.
Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert.
Anna Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy.
Wishful Drinking, by Carrie Fisher.
